Something Wicked: Pink Floyd - Another Brick in the Wall

Another Pink Floyd song... One of the main themes developed in THE COLLECTIVE is what C.G. Jung referred to as the Individuation Process. Jung argued that modern societies force the individual into conformance with the "norm" and that subjugation of the Self by the Mass was destructive to our true nature as individuals. We see that even more today than when Jung wrote THE UNDISCOVERED SELF over 50 years ago.

Modern technology, our political democracies, and our social networks - which we thought would release our blossoming individuality - now simply categorize and push us into accepted sociological groups; depriving us of our individuality and making us merely pieces of the whole. We become cogs in the machine, little more than numbers on a spread sheet. As Jung said, "The bigger the crowd, the more negligible the individual."
